The N.C. Department of Transportation posted a press release today that has further details for the final leg of 485.  The state has narrowed the companies down to four finalists which include:

  • Barnhill/English, a joint venture of Barnhill Contracting Co. and W.C. English Inc., and HDR Engineering Inc. of the Carolinas;
  • Blythe Construction Inc. and Wilbur Smith Associates;
  • Kiewit Southern Co. and Parsons Transportation Group Inc.; and
  • The Lane Construction Corp. and The LPA Group of North Carolina, P.A.

Next steps in the development process include:

  • Feb. 16 – NCDOT meets with the teams to answer questions and gather commentary about the draft RFP
  • May 4 – Technical proposals and project bids are due
  • May 20 – The teams give presentations explaining their technical proposals to NCDOT
  • May 21 – The department opens each team’s bid
  • May 28 – NCDOT awards the contract.

Under the plan announced by Bev. Perdue, the companies would be responsible for taking on $50 million in debt to help finance the project.  This money would be paid back from the state over 10 years.
